Kate In





Kate In is an artist, sound engineer, and educator based in Chicago. Her work involves research and experimentation with sound technologies, sound design for documentary media, electroacoustic music composition, and participatory, non-hierarchical collaboration. She holds an MA in Sound Arts and Industries from Northwestern University and is an engineer and studio manager at Experimental Sound Studio, a non-profit dedicated to the creative exploration of sound.


Kate’s sound and music work has been featured in Prismatic Ground (New York), Chicago International Film Festival, Cleveland International Film Festival, and Open Air Media Festival (Iowa City, IA).  She has been an artist-in-residence at Squeaky Wheel Media Arts Center (Buffalo, NY) and Atlantic Center for the Arts (New Smyrna, FL), and she has taught workshops in recording, stop-motion animation, and creative collaboration at Grinnell College, Colby-Sawyer College, Christian Brothers University, and Cornell College. Kate is also the curator and lead organizer of the Patchbent Sessions at ESS, a learning community and workshop series for women and gender-expansive people in sound and media arts.
